"two cans and a string"

In computer networks, bandwidth is often used as a synonym for data transfer rate - the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period (usually a second). This kind of bandwidth is usually expressed in bits (of data) per second (bps). Occasionally, it's expressed as bytes per second (Bps). A modem that works at 57,600 bps has twice the bandwidth of a modem that works at 28,800 bps. In general, a link with a high bandwidth is one that may be able to carry enough information to sustain the succession of images in a video presentation.

It should be remembered that a real communications path usually consists of a succession of links, each with its own bandwidth. If one of these is much slower than the rest, it is said to be a bandwidth bottleneck.

The 30 second spot:

"The web today is as demanding as ever. Surfers no longer settle for less. If you can't make a point quickly and effectively, you lose them." - unknown, but it is an important point!

30 second spot stinger

Intuitivethot along with it's multimedia project VaderVideo, now offers impact full 30 second spots that you can use on your web site, on YoutubeTM, Google VideoTM and many other places as well. We offer "broadcast ready" versions as well.

About Internet and Hosting Services...
Enter the Internet world.

When we offer the following services, they are usually never generic or the same for everyone. But we felt the need to at least give you some idea of the possibilities. So here's the short list: (Just follow the tabs below.)

Our environment is within a top class dedicated data center. We facilitate offerings from simple virtual hosts, to full blown dedicated hosts, to entire cabinets if neccessary.

Multiple redundancy is provided on connectivity, power and temperature control. Bandwidth capabilities are virtually unlimited in respect to "real world" usage.

The Foundation
Getting wired and connected.DNS or domain services. Yes, we control our own DNS servers fully and completely. There is no other party that needs to get involved. The buck stops here. This is most important for you particularly when there is an issue, when you are troubleshooting and particularly when you need to do solid SEO and SEM work*.

* In the world of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) it is vital to always have full control of DNS and to make sure it is always "resolving" properly with your site. This is invariably due to how the various "spiders" find and read your site for indexing and listing. If DNS is not set up correctly, this will simply cause many of the "crawls" to be ignored, hence causing your pages to potentially lose their rankings and listings. This can be detrimental to many months of effort and expenses already incurred. Unfortunately the "spiders" are not very forgiving.

The Framing

Big bandwidth from outer space. What are you running on? - What's really important is that you have a solid, yet easy to understand platform to work with. We offer several from simple to, well, complex, but still simple. Whether you need a simple shared hosting environment, or a super complex dedicated environment, we will help you. If it is beyond our scope, we will refer you. We won't waste your time by offering services that we know we can't do.

Bandwidth, schmandwidth - This is a nonsensical issue today as this can easily be grown to whatever the needs are when they arise. The problem is that bandwidth is still very confusing to understand due to the marketing tactics used by many. Here are some simple rules about bandwidth:

  • Bandwidth is NOT monthly transfer.
  • Bandwidth is NOT disk space provided.
  • Bandwidth is NOT how much space a rock band takes up.
  • Bandwidth is the measurement of actual data transfer per second capability. A T1 for example is rated at 1.54 Mb/s. That's 1.54 Megabits/second. Yield is most likely a bit less due to overhead. But if you really want to know how much transfer this offers, you must calculate out and consider that let's say 1 Mb is (~)equal to 128KB (128KiloBytes - not bits or 1,000,000/8 as there are 8 bits in a Byte) per second. This would mean that over a months time you could download a whopping grand total of ~332 GB (GigaBytes) of data if you burst 100% of the time. Not likely though as there are not too many sites that big. Of course a YouTube, or iTunes will easily achieve such bandwidth.
The Walls

Web pages flying by.What to build? - Website design today has truly become and art. One must first decide what the actual intent of any site is going to be (see Marketing 101). Too many sites get "slapped" together and actually end up being more counterproductive than if no site existed at all. Of course, if you are simply building a personal site for fun, forget about all these issues. But then again, maybe not.

If you are building your own site for your business, there are many things to take into consideration for success. If you look through our site, you will find the various facets of exactly what these considerations might be.

We do offer all the services to alleviate your pain in this process. And rest assured, this is not something to be taken lightly. It's one thing to build a site and turn it on. It's another to build a site that truly makes a case on your (company's) behalf, gets recognized in the search engine world (SEO) and quite simply makes sense to the visitor (target audience), regardles of who they might be.

There are many tools available regarding web site building. One can find scripts, plug ins, and of course full software applications to help in building your information portal. We don't like to recommend any specifically, but if you check our "Dream Tools Hot List on our blog" you might find some pretty interesting stuff. Most of the items on the list are things we have used. This does not mean we offer any type of technical support for such tools, but we can tell you if the tool did what we needed. Keep in mind, most of these reviews, lists and so on are very subjective and basically only our opinion.

The Public Utilities
The world at your fingertips.Of course to keep things functioning properly, you will need those public utilities. Just as in a house, you need electricity, gas, water and whatever else you can think of.

The services you get when hosting anything with us are the same. The difference between being hosted with us vs. a typical house is that our utility access is fully included in your contract with us. No nickel and dime-ing here. The typical facilities are:

  • Web (http) - of course, this is a given.
  • E-mail - whether you want accounts on our servers or your own, or even if you simply want it sent to your own in-house Exchange server, it's all available. On our servers we also offer anti-virus and anti-spam goodies, built-in.
  • FTP - of course this always helps so that you can upload your site as well as download your site (for backup).
  • FrontPage Extensions (Legacy) - if we must. But we really prefer not to. - Even Microsoft is phasing this out in favor of its new Expression Web
  • PHP/My SQL - yup.
  • CGI - sure.
  • SSI - aha.
  • Shell or Telnet Access (SSH) - nope. You really won't need this anyway unless you are doing things that we do not support. Even if you are in a dedicated hosting environment of your own, we frown on this as we can no longer take responsibility if things go bad. This of course applies only to *nix type environments, our favorite. But then again, if you can show us good reason why you need this, we will most likely be happy to oblige.
  • Windows Servers* - available only as dedicated hosts as provided by the customer. We never try to second guess how things should be setup on these types of servers.

We predominantly offer virtual hosting on *nix type systems only. We use Blue Quartz Linux versions with friendly interfaces by Nuonce. Oh, by the way, these make excellent and easy to use dedicated hosts as well. We will be happy to put packages together for you along these lines.

Meter Reading

Statistics Sample ImageThere is something to be said about knowing just how many visitors one actually gets. Not only does this tell you if you are succeeding at your goal, but also gives you insight as to just how much bandwidth you really need.

Statistics can give you various important information. Of course if you are doing heavy SEO and SEM, this information becomes priceless.
